Macau needs virtual options to help recovery: Study

Macau needs to recognize that tourism may not easily recover to pre-pandemic levels and needs to be able to turn to technology to help maintain revenue, such as online gambling, according to a study from leading academics.

“Gambling operators in destination-dependent gambling hubs should consider leveraging on the technology advances brought by the Industrial Revolution 4.0, such as virtual reality, to deliver an immersive online gambling experience for virtual tourists,” the study said.

However, the majority of Macau’s gamers come from Mainland China and Beijing has been crusading against online gambling firms targeting its nationals.
