Poll Finds Local Residents Opposed to Chiba IR Development

A poll by the Chibagin Research Institute has found that local residents in Mihama Ward are decisively opposed to the idea of an IR development in the Makuhari district, with 56% against the concept and only 21% in favor.

A local business group have been promoting the notion of a megafloat, a manmade floating island, to be created off the coast of Makuhari, upon which a luxury hotel and entertainment facilities, including a casino, would be built.

The new poll, however, suggests that this project has so far garnered the support of only a small minority of the local community.

Political leaders in Chiba have yet to make clear their own positions on a possible IR bid. (AGB Nippon)
