Sands Highlights Local Support Program

Sands China is highlighting its support for Macau’s local business community with a roadshow for two small-to-medium sized enterprises.

The company’s parent, Las Vegas Sands, is seeking a license in Japan and its Macau unit operates two of the biggest IRs in the gaming hub, the Venetian Macau and The Parisian.

Macau’s six casino concessionnaires have been under pressure from the government to do more to promote local business and most are now stepping up their efforts to buy locally when possible. Unlike the expected operating model in Japan, the six operators were not required to partner with local investors or enterprises to bid for a license.

In the roadshow, Macau Cheers Hotel Supply Trading and Wa Toc Engineering Company Limited were featured.

Founded by local entrepreneur Anthea Wai in 2011, Macau Cheers Hotel Supply Trading specializes in hotel supplies such as slippers, umbrellas, leather products, and customized paper bags. The local firm began doing business with Sands China after attending the company’s Local Supplier Open Day in August 2015, and its sales volume with Sands China has increased by more than 200 times to approximately 3.4 million patacas as of 2017.

Wa Toc Engineering Company Limited was founded in Macau in 2010, and is a provider of Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) supplies and services, including installation and maintenance. The local firm started off with only eight employees working as a subcontractor to other contractors. After an eight-year period of growth and development with Sands China as its major client, Wa Toc is now one of Macao’s largest local HVAC vendors, and has nearly one hundred employees. (AGB)
