In a rare event for normally peaceful Japan, an armed robber threatened the female manager of a Hokkaido pachinko parlor with a kitchen knife and made off with 1.44 million yen (about US$13,000) in cash.
The event took place past 1am on August 16 in the city of Sapporo at the Golden Taiho Kikusui pachinko parlor.
Normally the manager closed up the store at about 11pm, but she had extended into the early morning hours due to the increased business from the Bon holiday season. The robbery took place as she was leaving the building on her way home.
The armed robber appeared to be young, and was dressed in black and wore a mask over his face. He ran away after taking the money and is currently at large. (AGB Nippon)
